Natural Box Lux is a premium vegetable-tanned leather with a natural grain and an ability to develop a deep, warm patina on the grainy surface over time. The leather is imbued with light wax, oils and tallow added to bring out a very rich natural grainy feel and performance. 

 Virgilio’s vegetable tanning stands apart due to its slow, water-rich tanning process, which allows for deeper tannin penetration and a more stable fiber structure. Finished with a light aniline touch, it preserves the authenticity of the grain while offering exceptional body, durability, and a uniquely soft, responsive feel. The result is a leather that ages beautifully, gaining depth, richness, and individuality with every use. 

Care and Maintenance Note:  This article is a dyed and will gradually take on a natural patina with usage and over time. If products are applied to protect the leather, always test leather balms, waxes, leather conditioners or leather cleaner (for example, Saddle Soap, etc.) on a small test area for compatibility or potential changes to leather before applying on to the entire surface.

Virgilio Conceria Artigiana, located in Tuscany’s Ponte a Egola between Florence and Pisa, is a family-rooted tannery dedicated to preserving true artisanal vegetable tanning. Specializing in shoulders for belts, bags, and footwear, they follow centuries-old Tuscan methods rarely practiced today. Using carefully selected European hides from Norway, Switzerland, and France—known for their low defect rates—the tannery employs the traditional concia a bagno method (Pit-Tanning), a slow, water-based tanning process lasting 48–50 hours, far longer than the modern rapid vegetable tanning techniques. Combined with time-honored practices like sego (tallow) greasing and traditional pressing, this approach produces leather that is softer, lighter, and rich in natural character.
