Art. EPIC is a a great example of what an expert tannery can do when given select Grade A skins and create magic. We selected this article from Mastrotto’s long lineup of leathers for its texture, finish and its versatility for many leather applications be it Leathergoods, Fashion, Upholstery or even interior design. So what is great about this leather? Let’s analyze. 

Art. EPIC earns its name because of many things that the tannery was able to accomplish in this one article. For this, they picked select Asian origin cow skins. With select tanned crust, they used aniline dyes from a palette of earthy tones.  The hides were drum-dyed (not sprayed but dyed-through). Then comes the waxing process and imparting it gives a great hand feel. In order to produce a rustic vintage look, they selected a Nubuck process.  What is special about Nubuck, you may ask. Well, Nubuck is a special tannery process where a thin layer of the outer leather surface (the toughest layer when compared to the rigorous and fleshy layers below) is sanded off so that the high natural grains get that worn lighter color while the leather itself acquires a soft velvety rich feel. To kick it up another notch, a manual process is used to knead the hides to liven up the surface. The result is just EPIC, and we think that once you use this leather, you will agree with us. Go ahead and try EPIC.

Color: Agave, Denim, Ash, Cognac, Burgundy

Dye:  Aniline struck-through 

Size: 18-20 sq ft. (Side), 9-10 sq ft (Quarter)

Thickness: 1.2 - 1.4 mm (3 -3.5 oz)

Temper: Soft drape

Texture- Slightly waxy Nubuck finish with sanded light grain

Note:  A side is one half hide cut along the spine. A quarter is half a Side in measure.
